Africa is a continent of many textures with an abundance of beauty for an artist to explore. I have always been attracted to the ‘Big Cats’ as they represent both power and beauty like the land they inhabit. This is a painting that reflects what we hope Africa will always represent, wild, free and unblemished. I have captured this regal male lion on top of a rock outcrop, known as a kopje, surveying the land he dominates, like a king on his throne. I tried to exemplify both the beauty of the landscape with the physical attractiveness of this dominant apex predator in the hope to glorify his place as, ‘Master of His Domain’.
